Together, We Are Enriching the Lives of Adults with Disabilities and Special Communication Needs

At Total Communication Environment (TCE), we are committed to providing high-quality, compassionate support to adults with multiple disabilities and special communication needs. Through our residential, and outreach programs, we strive to ensure that the individuals we support are valued and active participants in their communities.

Since our establishment in 1979, TCE has grown in response to the evolving needs of those we serve. Today, we support over ninety individuals in various residential settings, as well as through outreach at several long-term care homes in the Ottawa area.

Your support truly impacts the lives of those we serve. Donations help us provide essential services, including transportation and the opportunity to engage in local events and activities. Your generosity also allows TCE to invest in specialized equipment and resources for therapy, life skills development, and educational programs, helping individuals gain greater independence and thrive in their daily lives.

In addition to these vital services, your contributions support recreational and social activities that encourage peer interaction and foster a sense of community. Every gift, no matter the size, strengthens the impact we have on the lives of those we support.

Community Placement

Each year TCE welcomes students from the Developmental Services Worker Program on co-op placements. We also have hosted students from many other disciplines at the College and University level: marketing, pharmacy, nursing, medical, recreation, behavioral sciences, occupational and physical therapy, social work, hairdressing, etc. Are you a student looking for an interesting placement or a research project? We would love to share the ‘TCE experience with you’!

Family Support Network

The Family Support Network (FSN) of TCE is an organization made up of families and friends of TCE residents. The group meets as a way of keeping in touch with each other, and with what is happening in the organization. The FSN has a representative on the TCE Board. The TCE Executive Director (or representative) attends FSN meetings and gives updates on recent issues and activities. New faces and new ideas are warmly welcomed. TCE Annual General Meeting

Our Annual General Meeting is typically held at the end of June. TCE families are invited to be voting members of the organization.
