What does "TCE" mean?

The term 'total communication' was first coined in the 1970's to describe an approach to living and learning for deaf children. It means simply that you use every means possible to assist a person to learn to communicate; to understand and be understood.

Whether through sign language, blissymbolics, pictures, pic symbols, mime, gestures, or words, TCE believes that every person should be given the opportunity to learn meaningful communication skills and to then express their needs and desires and feelings. TCE provides an environment where all possible communication will be encouraged and fostered - a "Total Communication Environment".
