Friends & Family Support NetworkThe Family Support Network (FSN) of TCE is an organization made up of families and friends of TCE residents. The group meets as a way of keeping in touch both with each other, and with what is happening in the organization. It provides a way to support TCE and our family members, and encourage each other. The FSN has a representative on the TCE Board. The TCE Executive Director (or representative) attends FSN meetings and gives updates on recent issues and activities. New faces and new ideas are warmly invited. Your presence would enrich the conversations of this circle of families who share such profound and unique concerns.
Annual Picnic/Barbecue at Andrew Haydon Park: Held every August, and open to all TCE residents and families, this event is planned and carried out by FSN volunteers. Food is donated, members come early and set up tables and decorate with balloons and banners. We always have an entertainer, and are almost always blessed with pleasant weather.
Fall/Hallowe’en Party 2011: A wonderful party was organized and hosted at Longfields-Davidson Heights Secondary School by Barb Troutman (sister of TCE resident Doug) and many of her students. The main foyer was elaborately decorated for hallowe’en, there were snacks, lots of music and performances by students (and some by TCE residents). Families and TCE staff accompanied residents, and everybody had a great time. Thank you very much to Barb Troutman and all the students who participated so enthusiastically for TCE’s enjoyment.
Annual Christmas Parties: For the last few years, our Christmas parties, organized by the TCE Board, have been held in individual TCE homes. People have been happy with the intimate style of parties in their own homes. Families of the homes’ residents are invited, and Board members attend as many of the parties as they can. A Christmas meal is provided to suit the needs and wishes of each home. In December 2010, we had FIVE volunteer Santa Clauses, and every home had a visit from Santa at their party. A special “Mrs. TCE Santa” managed to find everything on the wish list, and gifts abounded. Thanks to all the volunteers.
TCE Annual General Meeting: Our Annual Meeting for the year 2010-11 was held in June 2011. Future meetings will also be held in June. Family members are now invited to become voting members of TCE.
